SIGNIFICANT EXPERIENCES

Lou wanted to join the Navy and his two neighborhood friends "suckered" him into the Marine Corps with them.  All ended up on Iwo Jima in the Pacific.  Lou was a machine gunner and survived Iwo, but his two friends were killed in this horrendous battle for a very strategic island.  Lou was a witness to the historic flag raising on Mt. Suribachi on Iwo Jima.  He was honorably discharged June 19, 1946.  He and his wife, Ann, lived in the Carriage Homes.

Lou Szabo passed away at Lexington in  2001 and is buried in
