John served as the Electronics Officer aboard the heavy cruiser U.S.S. Des Moines during the height of the Korean War.  Afterwards, he worked the Naval Air Systems Command as an avionics engineer on electronic counter-measures projects for the U.S. Government.  He and his wife, Rita, lived in the Estate Homes.

John passed away at Lexington on October 4, 2001.  He was buried in Ft. Myers, Florida at Lee Memorial Gardens.
